Never lie. Unless you can pull it off.
80 Cards. Endless Stories
Use cards to create unbelievable stories.
These can be true or false.
But don’t let your audience know.
You only win by fooling people.
Rulebook
Game Components:
80 Cards
60 Score Points
6 Believe Coins
1 Hourglass
Game Setup:
The first storyteller is chosen at random.
The game runs clockwise.
Select Cards: Each storyteller draws between 1 and 3 cards from the deck. These cards are kept secret and are not shown to other players initially.
Prepare to Tell Your Story:
Study your cards for a brief moment (under 1 minute).
Place your coin on either Truth or Lie to indicate the nature of your story.
Start the 3-minute timer (flip the hourglass) and tell your story based on the chosen cards.
Story Judgement Phase:
Ask a Question: After the story is told, the other players may ask one question together to the storyteller.
Individual Judgement:
Each player, starting from the one to the storyteller’s left, makes an individual judgement with their own coin (either Truth or Lie) about the storyteller’s claim.
Scoring:
Gain points for each disparity between your coin choice (Truth or Lie) and the guesses of the other players.
Points gained are equal to the number of cards chosen (e.g., if you chose 2 cards and your story was doubted by 2 players although it was true, you gain 4 points).
Winning the Game:
The game ends when a player reaches the point goal:
2 Players: 10 points
3 Players: 15 points
4-6 Players: 20 points
After the first player wins, the game can continue to determine placements.
Additional Rules for Continuing:
Players who have already won may each ask one additional question to the storyteller during judgement.
Players who do not wish to tell stories (or if the player count is full) may join as questioners from the beginning.
BELIEVE FAQ
-
All Allmer Games are designed to be as intuitive and easy to learn as possible. Believe is no exception, being playable “right out the box”. The more often you play, the better your stories will become!
-
Let’s do the math!
Imagine you draw 2 cards everytime. With 80 cards, this would give you 3160 unique card combinations to inspire an endless amount of stories. After 68 plays you find a repeating pair about half of the time. At this point, you can try to tell a previous story even more convincingly or go in a completely different direction.
Once you become a great storyteller, why not choose 3 cards to score more points? A staggering 82160 unique card combinations are now possible. It would take you an entire year of playing the game daily to get the same 50% chance.
With Believe, the only limit is your imagination!
